Some colorful inspiration

Some colorful inspiration

Husband and I took our out-of-town guests to one of our favorite local spots: Norfolk Botanical Garden.

I love the variety of things they have growing in every season and expanse that the garden covers–we’re rarely able to see the whole thing in just one visit. Plus, everything that is growing outdoors can be grown in our climate, which means that we can get some inspiration for our own landscaping. Granted, we don’t own a house yet, so we’re not going to sink a lot of money into these beautiful plants just yet. But that doesn’t mean I can’t dream.

We both love Japanese maple trees.
We both love Japanese maple trees, and I’m especially partial to the red variety. Cannot wait to plant a few of these when we have our own home!

Miniature calla lilies.
Miniature calla lilies are some of my favorite flowers, hence my bridal bouquet…

My bridal bouquet

Black bamboo.
Husband and I both love bamboo, and this black variety is certainly appealing. We just have to figure out a way to keep it from becoming invasive!

Oddly enough, thistles have been a favorite of mine since I was very young. I’d love to have a few of these.

Mondo grass.
Mondo grass is pretty cool.

Pineapple lilies.
This is the first I’d ever heard of pineapple lilies, but I love them!

New Guinea Impatiens
And last, but not least, these New Guinea impatiens were colorful but understated, just the way I like it =).
