Today I am thankful for…

  • My cuddly puppy, even if she makes me jealous by staying in bed while I force myself to get ready for the day.
  • My home. Any home would be something to be thankful for, but my home especially. It is a blessing.
  • Taking the time to enjoy something each day.
  • Husband.
  • Warm days. Cold nights.
  • Open windows. Flannel sheets.
  • Rhythm.
  • The lovely faces of blooming daffodils.
  • Homemade pizza.
  • The final push on my thesis.
  • Yoga.
  • Almost March.
  • Progress.
  • Hope.

Cuddly puppy
It appears Ginger has outgrown her “morning puppy” tendencies. Now I have to poke, prod, and bribe her out of bed in the morning…

A bit of Valentine sweetness

A bit of Valentine sweetness

Can I share with you how much my family loves spritz cookies? I don’t even know where the idea originated, but my mom has been making them for as long as I can remember, and these little things go like hotcakes! They make a great little Valentine’s Day treat:

Valentine's Day cookies

1 cup butter (softened)
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 egg
1 tsp. almond or vanilla extract
food coloring, if desired
colored sugar, if desired

February Goals!

February Goals!

My February Goals

Okay, lets start with a few holdovers from January:

  • Finish hanging picture frames in master bedroom.
  • License horse trailer!
  • Finish membership classes at church.
  • Make time for manicures.

And a few new goals…

  • Stick to our new budget. Seriously.
  • Finish thesis project!!
  • Yoga, yoga, and more yoga. It helps my sanity.
  • Choose paint colors for the kitchen =).
  • More organizing! (Roll-top desk, under-bed storage, kitchen closet, and craft room to be exact.)
  • Start riding Chappy at least 1x/week (hoping the weather stays nice…)

Here’s a look at how I did on my January goals…

  • Finish sewing curtains. Nope.
  • Streamline cleaning process on Saturdays. Doing better!
  • Organize Christmas items as I put them away. Yep. I so condensed our Christmas items into fewer boxes =).
  • Make time to play with Gidget and Fidget every night. Hmmmm, maybe not every night, but most of them.
  • Hang picture frames in master bedroom (everything was taken off the walls when I painted…in September). Half-way done.
  • Find a rare warm evening to take a bike ride! (For Christmas, I bought Husband headlights and taillights for our bikes…) Yes! We took an entire Saturday afternoon and last night we rode our bikes to the barn =)
  • Re-budget…things change, time for the budget to change too. We did this, but I’m learning that budgets are far from stagnant, so I’m sure we will be revisiting it again soon…
  • Visit family in the Washington DC area. (We really, really want to get out of Va Beach for a weekend!) Made plans, got sick, plans were cancelled.
  • Officially join our church as members. (Looking forward to this one!) Working on it, two more membership classes to go!
  • Make significant progress on thesis project (I will probably need to define significant…) I guess this depends on the definition of significant.
  • Do some financial organizing (as in closing accounts, transferring funds, etc.). I did a lot of this, but there is still a little left to work on.
  • License horse trailer! Nope.
  • Budget for England. (What, didn’t I tell you I’m going to England??) England trip on hold…
  • Make time for manicures, even if I am doing them myself. Fail.
  • Read, and read some more. (Currently working on Cranford, by Elizabeth Gaskell.) Pass!
