Yarn Along Dauntless and a Cowl

I’m preparing to start a new cowl with this Marshmallow Fluff pattern, probably my last of the season as Spring has officially sprung and it’s time to move on to outdoor projects. But one last knit is always a good idea. Also, I’m reading Dauntless by Dina L. Sleiman. This is my first book from this author and I’m still not quite sure what I think of it, check back soon for a review!

Seed stitch cowl

I really enjoyed this easy pattern as I joined my family in a backwoods Kentucky cabin for a weekend. Easy to knit and chat, set down and pick up amid other goings-on. And I do love the look of the seed stitch, as easy as it is to create. I find that it makes to a tightly woven cowl, especially compared to some of the drop-stitch cowls that I’m used to wearing. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. And, more than anything, I now have a lovely cowl to wear with so many of my black work clothes to keep me warm in my frigid office.

And I’m still reading Persuasion, because I like to savor the reading of any Jane Austen and because I can hardly keep my eyes open to read at night these days.

Yarn Along The Gathering Cowl

It took me a while to start this project, between getting the right size needles and learning what a provisional cast on and Kitchener stitch are. But I’m glad I didn’t let the new lingo scare me off, because once I got started, I completed The Gathering Cowl in one evening. And I absolutely love it! Also, finishing in one evening gave me more time to read — Persuasion by Jane Austen, because in the bleakness of winter, Jane is a good friend.

Knitting and reading

My intention with starting this Growing Leaves Cowl pattern was to challenge myself, and challenge I have done. I’ve actually pulled it all out a few times and started over. But I’m loving the pattern and I’m determined to finish. I’m also reading Emile Zola’s The Ladies’ Paradise (which the BBC’s The Paradise is based on), and I’m rather enjoying it so far, much more than Pot Luck, the novel that comes before it in Zola’s series.

I just finished reading My Year with Eleanor by Noelle Hancock for my book club. In general, I thought it was a pretty decent read, although not terribly earth-shattering. I’ll post a review soon!

I’m also working my way up the front of my first shell. It’s taking me a while, but I have the armholes in and I’m looking forward to working out my very first neckline =).

Yarn Along reading My Year with Eleanor

I just started reading My Year with Eleanor by Noelle Hancock for my book club. In general, I like memoirs, so I’m looking forward to this one. I haven’t gotten very far, but it started out rather interesting so I have high hopes of it being a pretty decent read.

I also started the front of my never-ending-shell. It’s a long process, I’m learning. But I’m plugging away at it, absolutely determined to complete this project.

Reading Stitches and knitting

I’m reading Stitches by Ann Lamott for my ladies book club. I don’t think it’s a book I would have picked up on my own, which is the whole point of the book club — to be exposed to new and different books. Although I’ve heard of her, I’d never read anything by Lamott before, so this was new.

I also finished the back of my never-ending-shell while at the cabin after Christmas (is there any better place to knit than in front of a fire at a cabin in the mountains?). And I even started on the front… Here’s to hoping I finish my first garment this winter!
